Liquid Photo came from a desire to provide surfers with a view of what they look like on the waves, and a need to make a living in Costa Rica. I started photographing surfers in the late 90's back in Jacksonville Beach, Florida. My number one subject was my daughter Alexandra, but I photographed many surfers at the surf contest in and around Florida, as well as, chasing hurricanes swells with a car load of surfers and the top of my SUV loaded with boards.

It was Alexandra's love to surf that brought us to Costa Rica in 2006, I choose not to pursue surf photography at the time, since the beach was full of photographers, so I focused on nature photography, weddings and portraits under the name of Twinka Tison Studios www.twinkatisonstudios.com. In recent months the constant influx of surfers interested in seeing their perfomance on the waves, helped make the decision to return to the beach with the my Canon 50D and 100/400 lense as Liquid Photo CR.

I have been a photgrapher since 1981, holding my first actual exhibition in Jaco in August 2008. Most of my work has been weddings, events and shows, but the main focus in Costa Rica has been nature and I am now turning a great amount of my time to surf photography.

It is very satisfying to sit with surfers right after a session and listen to them critique each wave and see the excitment in their faces when they see I have captured that incredible moment when they hit the lip and "caught air" or slipped into a barrel. My Canon 50D has the capabilty to shoot 6.3 frames per second, so it is like watching a video, only with the capability to stop each frame to analyze where improvements could be made, whether it is foot position on the board or proper stance at that critical moment. Liquid Photo CR is not just about catching the "best shot" it is about showing you the entire sequence on the wave.

Liquid Photo CR offices are located 3KM south of Playa Jaco in Playa Hermosa at Hermosa Bungalows. Look for the Backyard Bar on your right, take an immediate turn right and follow the 'beach road' to Hermosa Bungalows Resort, which is located just beyond the famous "Almendro Tree" surf break. We are located in Bungalow 12, take the south entrance onto the property. The break in front of my office known as "Almendro Tree" is a very strong beach break. This long stretch of breaks working any given day, but the preferred sand bar is located in front of a the large tree. The waves conditions are generally best at mid- tide.
